Coronavirus
Yep. Talk of the town. Let me tell you, the last week for me has just been
absolute insanity. Like, it genuinely feels like the apocalypse right now, what
with all the toilet paper hoarding and all.
Like, seriously. Sunday I was like "okay, everything is still normal, nothing to
worry about" and then *everything* was shut down. Schools, workplaces, any
public gathering over 50 people, resturaunts, everything. And we're obviously
entering a global reseccion because wow turns out it's hard to have economic
growth when only essential personnel are working. Like, you know the old "SHUT
DOWN EVERYTHING" meme? (https://youtu.be/4bG3qtXzBDY) That's reality. Right now.
There is genuinely nothing more sobering than Jon Oliver giving a show from a
completely white room, or Stephen Colbert drunk off his ass making jokes in an
empty studio and dreading the end times.
So now I'm working from home. I'm very fortunate to have a job that I can work
from home with. Yay, programming for a living. It's basically exactly the same,
except I don't have any of the test equipment I need for my embedded development
stuff. Which is fine imo, because that's 99.9% done at this point. How
absolutely fortunate. imagine if the end times had came a month ago. we'd be
basically screwed. but we're only a little screwed. thanks, everyone, for almost
getting the project done.
okay i'm talking about the end of the world a bunch. i mostly got out my anxiety
and panic about that around wednesday. mostly because i had convinced myself
that i had caught the virus. i had not, turns out i'm midly allergic to my
parents' dog. (oh yeah, i meant i'm working from *home*. not taking any chances.
just gonna hang out here in rural america until this dies down. which sorta
screws with my "join the IWW" plan but whatever that's not the solution right
now. Social distancing. That's it.)
Like yeah, I... I've just kinda gave into the absurdity of it all. Like, yeah,
fucking Mitt Romney wants to give every American $1,000 dollars. Biden wants
free public college for families that make under $125k. Yeah. Sure. Whatever.
Anything goes. https://youtu.be/3aeQ3DmKU7A is reality. The economy has crashed
into a brick wall as a large majority of the population just won't have jobs.
So they'll start having to give thngs out for free just so people don't die.
And who the hell's going to go back from that? Maybe, just fucking maybe, it's
this stupid virus that kills capitalism. I don't know. Anything goes. This just
feels like 9/11, probably. I was 3 when that happened. What the heck do I know?
Where was I when the virus hit? On spring break at my parents' place trying not
to have a mental breakdown about the whole damn thing, that's what.
And I'm one of the lucky ones. I'm a fairly healthy young woman. What about the
elderly, or the homeless, or etc. etc? We're at a pivotal point in history, and
I'm chatting with my friends on MSN Messenger because Discord broke. Because of
course it did. Because anything goes.
